自己紹介（七尾市国際交流員アレックス）

イギリス出身のアレックスです。令和7年8月から七尾市国際交流員として働いています。みなさんに僕のふるさとであるイギリスの文化をお伝えしたいと思っています。月2回程度発信する予定なので、よかったら読んでみてください。

Hello, and welcome to this blog! 
My name is Alex, I am from the UK, and I have been working as a Coordinator for International Relations in Nanao City Hall since August 2025. I have decided to start writing short articles about the UK as a way to share my culture with anyone who might be interested in what life is like in other countries. I plan to upload a new article every couple of weeks, so be sure to check back every so often!

プロフィール

令和7年8月から国際交流員として地域づくり支援課に所属しているヒューベル・アレックスです。32歳で、ウェールズのカーディフ大学で日本語とフランス語を専攻しました。これまで、北海道と東京に6か月間ずつ住んだことがあります。2019年に北海道のニセコスキー場で、朝はパン屋、昼はスノーボードのインストラクターとして働いたことがきっかけで、日本が大好きになりました！イギリスへ帰国してから、また日本に戻るために独学で日本語を勉強し始めましたが、コロナのせいでイギリスから出られなくなったので、カーディフ大学に入学して学ぶことにしました。2024年に東京の早稲田大学に留学し、和太鼓サークルに参加したり、なるべく多くの日本の文化を勉強しました。

My name is Alex Heuvel and I have been working as Coordinator of International Relations in the Community Development Support Division of the town hall since August. I am 32 years old, and before coming to Nanao I studied French and Japanese at Cardiff University in Wales. This is not the first time I have spent time living in Japan, having previously lived in Kutchan town, Hokkaido, and Tokyo for 6 months each. I spent the winter of 2019 in Kutchan, working as a baker in the morning, and as a ski/snowboard instructor in the afternoon. It was this experience that sparked my interest in Japan, and when I returned to the UK, I started studying Japanese in my spare time, hoping to return to Japan to study it full time. However, when the Corona pandemic made travel impossible, I eventually decided to study in Cardiff instead. As part of my studies, I spent 6 months in Japan, where I studied at Waseda University in Tokyo, learning as much as I could about Japanese culture, and in particular, Taiko drums!

故郷について

故郷のマーサー・ティドビルは、南ウェールズにあり、山に囲まれ、自然に恵まれた場所です。七尾の山々とちがって、南ウェールズにある山には木が生えません。しかし、木がなくても本当に美しい山脈はいくつもあります。ウェールズはよく雨が降る国なので、滝や川が多いです。イギリスの気候は一年中かなり涼しく、30度を超える日は年間で約20日程度しかありません。熊やイノシシなどの危険な動物がいないので、ハイキングは真冬以外いつでも楽しめます！

During my time in Wales, I lived in town called Merthyr Tydfil, nestled in the valleys of south Wales and surrounded by beautiful nature spots. The mountains there are very rocky, and they have no trees, so they look very different to the ones here in Nanao! There are also many waterfalls in the area, as Wales receives a lot of rain every year (Cardiff is the wettest city in the UK!). If you can put up with the rain, the temperature remains fairly cool all year round, so you can go hiking and enjoy Wales’ natural beauty at any time of year!

趣味について

趣味はハイキングをはじめとした、スノーボードやボルダリングなどのスポーツですが、日本にいるうちに書道や弓道など、イギリスで体験できないことをたくさんやってみたいと思います。昔のヨーロッパでは、イギリスの弓兵が有名で、現在でもイギリスには弓を学んでいる人がたくさんいます。そのため、日本の弓道に特に興味があります。料理をするのも好きです。日本のスーパーではまだ迷子になりますが、色んな日本料理を作るのを楽しみにしています！おすすめの料理があったらぜひ教えてください！よろしくお願いします！

Other than hiking, I enjoy snowboarding and bouldering in my free time, but while I’m in Japan, I would love to try out some traditional activities like calligraphy or Kyudo, or perhaps join a Taiko group!I am also a keen (but amateur) cook so I’m hoping to learn to make some Japanese dishes once I feel a little less lost looking around the supermarket! I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone so if you see me around town feel free to stop me for a chat!
