七尾市での思い出

こんにちは。七尾市の国際交流員としての最後のブログへようこそ。8月3日をもって私は任期を終え、七尾を離れることになりましたので、この最後のブログでは、ここで過ごした1年と経験を振り返りたいと思います。

七尾に初めて来たとき、すぐに気づいたのは、この街の魅力は「人」にあるということでした。アパート探しや引っ越しの手伝いから、他の人を紹介してくださったり、生活に慣れるまで支えてくださったりと、この地域に迎え入れるために時間と労力を惜しみなく提供してくださった方々の数は、とても数えきれません。七尾で出会った多くの素晴らしい人々と交流できたことを、私は本当に幸運だと思っています。

また、七尾の自然の豊かさや緑の多さにもとても感動しました。私は人生の大半を田舎で過ごしてきたので、このような場所はとても居心地が良いと感じます。小丸山台にある私のアパートは山の寺のすぐそばにあり、寺の周りを季節ごとの景色を楽しみながら散歩するのが大好きでした。特に雪が降っている時の寺の風景はとても印象的です。また、通勤途中に毎日目にしていた自然も大きく恋しくなると思います。川沿いを素早く飛び回るスズメや、枝をくわえて巣へと舞い上がるサギ、岩の上で日向ぼっこをするカメや、虫を捕まえようとして水面から跳ねる魚など、本当に豊かな自然に恵まれた場所です。七尾の美しい自然を離れるのはとても寂しいです。

最後に、国際交流員としての仕事を通して、想像もしなかったような多くの経験をすることができました。いくつか挙げると、能登演劇堂を見学し、フランス人演出家の通訳をしながら仲代達矢の無名塾の方にインタビューをしたこと、諸保育園で自分の母国の文化について紹介し子どもたちと一緒にゲームをしたこと、そして七尾の皆さんに自分の好きな食べ物を紹介する機会をいただいたことなどがあります。さらに、鍛冶町の若衆の一員として青柏祭などの地域の祭りに参加できたことも大変光栄でした。祭りは本当に大変でしたが、非常に特別で刺激的な経験であり、またぜひ参加したいと思えるものでした。

7月末には、私の後任としてアメリカ出身の男性が国際交流員として着任する予定です。皆さんが私にしてくださったのと同じように、彼にも温かい支援と友情をいただけることを確信しています。彼の任期中に、皆さんが彼の文化について学ぶ機会を楽しみにしていただければ嬉しいです。

Hello, and welcome to my final blog post as Nanao City’s Coordinator for International Relations. As of August 3rd, I will be leaving my post and moving away from Nanao, so I would like to use this final blog to look back at the year I have spent here and the experiences I have had.

When I first arrived, I very quickly discovered that the people of Nanao are what makes this city so special. I cannot count the number of people who so freely and generously gave their time and effort to help welcome me to this community, from help with finding an apartment and moving in, to introducing me to other people and helping me settle into life here. I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to interact with so many wonderful people across Nanao.

I was also very pleased to see how green and full of nature Nanao is. I have spent the majority of my life living in countryside areas, so I feel very at home in a place like this. My apartment in Komaruyamadai is right next to Yamadera, and I have loved walking around the temples and taking in the scenery in each season. The temples are particularly striking while it’s snowing! I will also hugely miss all the nature that I see every day on my walk to work, from sparrows darting around along the river and herons soaring overhead carrying twigs back to their nests, to the turtles sunbathing on the rocks and fish leaping out of the water as they try to catch insects. Nanao is blessed with so much beautiful nature, and I am very sad to be leaving it behind.

Lastly, as a Coordinator for International Relations, I have been able to experience so much as part of my work that I had never expected. To name just a few things I have been lucky enough to do: I have had a tour of the Noto Engekidou and interviewed members of Nakadai Tetsuya’s Mumeijuku while interpreting for a French theatre director; I have been invited to talk about my home country’s culture and play games with the children at various nursery schools; and I have had the opportunity to introduce some of my favourite foods to the people of Nanao. On top of this, I have also had the honour of participating in local festivals such as Seihakusai as a member of Kajimachi’s Wakaishu. The festival was absolutely exhausting but was a truly unique and exciting experience that I hope to be able to experience again.

An American man will be taking my place as Coordinator for International Relations at the end of July, and I know everyone will offer him the same support and friendship that I have been so blessed to receive. I hope you are all looking forward to learning about his culture during his time as CIR!
